Thursday was Rosh Hashanah and because Baltimore County observes Jewish holidays, we got the day off! Rather than be productive and accomplish things (who needs to do that?), we went to the beach! Besides, I’ve gone to Assateague every summer since 2002. I couldn’t break the tradition!
So we got up Thursday morning, drove across the Bay Bridge (it’s over 4 miles long!),
and arrived at Assateaugue Island (a national seashore and one of my favorite places to go in Maryland). (BTW, in Maryland, us West Coasters have to be careful not to make the mistake of saying that we’re going to “the coast.” Here, we either say, “the beach” or “the shore” or if you’re really from Baltimore, you’ll say, “We’re going down the oh-shun.” 
)
I had fun wearing Granny’s sunglasses on the beach! I think Nik prefers me to wear other, less alien-like sunglasses in public (and I would agree!). But for the beach, they worked well for cutting down the glare and I just liked wearing them! That’s also my beach hat that we bought on St. John, while on our honeymoon!
Nik and I enjoyed swimming, lying in the sun, taking a walk, and reading. All in all, it was a wonderful day. And well worth the six hours of driving for the five hours on the beach!

Oh fun! It’s been awhile since i’ve been to the oh-shun…lots of seas. (Well….actually I think the north coast of N Ireland may be ocean…but when it’s really cold and rainy it doesn’t exactly feel beachy.)I’m glad you got to enjoy your day off! Thanks for the photos!
