I get all my best jokes and puzzles from Car Talk. 

The answer to this puzzle is a word.

Take away the first letter of the word and you get a homophone of the first word.
Add the first letter back and take away the second letter.
You’ll get another homophone of the first and second words.

What’s the word?

That’s how much I just spent on swimsuits at landsend.com.  That’s the most I’ve ever spent at one Internet site in my life (other than plane tickets).   I got an e-mail offer for free shipping so I decided to order a bunch of different swimsuits to see if I liked any of them.  So have no fear, I’ll be returning the majority (but hopefully not all) of them soon after I get them.  You can return Lands’ End stuff to Sears now so I think I’m going to get away with not paying anything for shipping on these!  Am I a savvy shopper or what?

My new shoes

Here’s my new shoes (from Aldo)!  I can’t get the picture to be bigger so here’s a link to see them better.   I got them in brown.

I still maybe need one more pair of shoes but I think I’m getting close to having most of the clothes that I need for the summer of weddings! (We have three more to go to besides our own.)

Miscommunication

(A bit of background to this short story:  Today, I mailed our wedding invitations, over 130 of them.)

So as we were leaving his house to go out for dinner tonight, I said something to the effect of,

“It made me more than a little bit nervous to put those invitations in the mail box.  I mean – it’s so final.  Before I mailed them, we could change our mind but now we can’t.”

Hmmmmmm.

Didn’t exactly come out as I’d intended.

What I meant was, “change our mind” about how many people we should be inviting or I don’t know really know what else.  Just change our mind in general about details concerning the wedding.

What it could easily have been interpreted to mean:
“change our mind” about whether or not to get married.  Oops.  I don’t want to change my mind about that.

Luckily, Nik has a sense of humor.
