She’s Two!

And that’s all I have to say about that.  I had big plans for a celebratory blog post but that will have to wait until next week.  Now, we’re off to celebrate being two!  (And yes, I got the doll finished, bald though she is!)

Here’s what Ellie likes to do now that she’s two. (And I promise that she thought of this herself.  I didn’t do it to her!)

KIOS: Eating, A Confession

This post is part of my series, “Kickin’ It Old Skool: Why and How We Are Old-Fashioned” or KIOS for short.  If you’re new to the series, please read my disclaimer before continuing on.  I’m keeping a table of contents to this series here so you can see what I’ve already written about and what more there is to come.

I haven’t had time to type a real KIOS blog post this week.  Birthday preparations and potty training have been eating up all my time.  So in lieu of a real post, here’s a confession for you:

Two nights ago, I was so hungry by 8:00.  Clearly, our delicious dinner had not convinced my pregnant body that I had had enough calories for the day.  Nik had to go out to pick up our weekly delivery of milk (responsible, sustainable milk) and offered to get me something, whatever I wanted, told me that I could call it a pregnancy craving.

So what did I chose?

Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets and fries.  It’s right on the way back from picking up the milk!  I ate Chick-fil-A once when I was pregnant with Ellie so I figured I’d better expose this baby to a little fast food in the womb too.  It’s only fair.

And yes, they were delicious but I was still hungry after that too.  So I just went to bed.  Sometimes, my stomach cannot be appeased except by sleep.  When I woke up this morning, I felt fine.

So – there you have it.  Just wanted to keep it real here while I’m writing about all the real food we eat!  We probably won’t eat Chick-fil-A again for a long time but it did taste good!  (Although, to be honest, not that good – it didn’t satisfy whatever craving/hunger that my body was asking for.  So clearly I chose the wrong food.  Oh well.  Life does go on.)

We’re In That Stage

Now that she’s almost two, Ellie has definitely entered the awkward “I don’t really know how to or even want to smile for the camera but sometimes if you catch me off guard, I’ll still be cute” stage.

Case in point:  A cute photo-op with Baba after bath time.

September Sewing: The Doll [almost]

I’ve made shockingly fast progress on this doll.  The head was definitely the hardest part.  Here we have the head inserted into the arms with the legs and torso ready to be sewn on.

Since I took this picture last night, I finished almost all the hand sewing of the body to the arms.  Now I’m actually contemplating having the clothes made by her birthday too!  I’m delaying embroidering the eyes and mouth because I’m having a terrible time choosing the eye color.  Ellie’s eyes are gray blue and I just can’t match the color perfectly.  I’ll come up with something before Saturday!  And yes, the doll will most certainly be bald on Ellie’s birthday (but not permanently).  I figure that this is appropriate because Ellie looked bald for much of her first two years.

Happy Birthday, My Love

Even though we’ll have lots of fun celebrating in person today,
Ellie and I also want to say publicly,

“Happy Birthday to the Best Husband and Father in the Whole World!”

A Letter to Our New Baby

Dear Baby B2,

We are so glad that you’ll be joining our family in just three short months (give or take a couple weeks on either side).  We’re hoping you’ll decide to join us in 2012, for the tax-write-off bonus, but we know you’ll come when it’s time for you to come.

We love you so much already.  Ellie proudly talks about you and lists you in our family, “Mama, Baba, Ellie, BABY!!!!”

I do have to confess today though that I waver between two competing feelings about you these days.  Half the time, I just forget about you.  You’re going to have a great big sister and Ellie loves you already.  But wow, she does ask for a lot of attention.  And this week, as I’ve been cleaning pee off the floor and changing big girl panties, I’ve been asking, “Whose idea was it anyway to do potty training when I was six months pregnant?”  I know I’ll be grateful for this though when I’m changing your diapers and not Ellie’s.  You’re so nice and accommodating and hardly ever move unless I’m sitting still and paying attention to you.  And well, that doesn’t happen very often with Ellie around.  So don’t feel bad.  I promise to pay more attention to you once you get here!

The other half of the time, I have this feeling of impending doom that you’re coming too soon.  How is it possible that I”m in my third trimester?!?!  I haven’t even accomplished half of my “before B2 comes list”, those living room shades are never going to get done, and it seems like I will never get anything done again after you get here.  I know that’s not true but now, looking at it from this side, it feels that way.  So really, don’t believe me when I’m worrying to Baba about it, OK?

We really do want you to come.  Just make the next three months move really slowly, OK?

Love,
Your mama

September Sewing: Head and Shoulders (but no knees or toes yet)

I finished the head and shoulders!  The wool ball is hidden from sight forever.  Now I just have to add the “skin” and then make the rest of the doll.  All before Saturday! (We’ll see about that.)

The line just above the nose is the eye line.

That little nose is adorable!
