I am so rich…

…and highly influential and important, (in case you couldn’t tell), which is why I fly first class.  I can only assume this is what Captain Denny Flanagan of my Denver to Baltimore flight was thinking when he wrote me this note on the back of his personal business
card.

Ms J, You are a valued customer and your business is greatly appreciated.  Please let me know how we can exceed your expectations.

Capt. Denny

P.S. I have his cell phone number if you want to give him a call!

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggety Jig

I’m finally home!  On the way home, I volunteered to get bumped and ended up with a free ticket for the Lower 48 and flying home in 1st class!  Not a bad deal!  Nik very kindly picked me up at midnight instead of 6:45 so it all worked out well in the end!  I’m now trying to unpack, beat jet lag (it’s not working), and get settled.  I did rip up a gazillion credit card applications and other junk mail while talking to Meggan yesterday so at least I don’t have that pile anymore.  (Unfortunately, the bill pile doesn’t disappear quite as easily!)  Tonight, I begin teaching a Kaplan GRE class that is M/W/Th nights for the next three weeks.  I think I’d pretty much lost my mind when I signed up to teach that class since it overlaps with the first week of school but oh well.  Some summer pictures to come soon!

Cold Cold Cold Baby!

I just found out that I’m getting moved across the hall at school into a room that a teacher with medical problems used to have.  She had to have air conditioning and retired this year.  And the principal decided that I get to have it now.  So I don’t have to teach in a 96 degree classroom anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I really can’t explain how thrilled I am about this!  No more hot sweaty days!  My whole attitude about going back to work has changed – now I’m pretty much not dreading it at all!

Salmon, Salmon, Salmon

We enjoyed a fun salmon and halibut dinner last night with our friends from Baltimore – Nik, Dan, Dan, Ray, and Al.  See Meggan’s blog for the pictures.  It was fun to have my Baltimore and Alaska worlds meet.

Today, after doing the mammoth kitchen cleaning job, we are preparing to head off to Glennallen to [hopefully] get lots of fish from the fishwheel and then we’re going to church at Glennallen Community Chapel in the morning.   We’ll see how many of the old Glennallen families we get to reunite with!

Earthquakes…you’re not in Baltimore anymore! (and babies!)

This morning, around 5:15, I partially woke up enough to feel an earthquake shaking the house.  Meggan came down a few minutes later to use the computer and find out how big it was and so I woke up enough to realize that I actually had just felt an earthquake!  I think that’s only the 2nd earthquake that I really remember being aware of feeling and it’s definitely the only time that an earthquake that has woken me up.  The details…4.9, which isn’t that big but the epicenter was only about 4 miles from Anchorage so we really felt it.   As Leah so rightly pointed out, earthquakes are a good reminder that even the things which we perceive to be the most stable in our lives, really aren’t!

And in other fun news,  Katie’s water has broken!!  So soon little Adella will be joining the our clan!!  Hip Hip Hooray!
