This is part of the yardwork that I accomplished this week:
A fully weeded and prepped bed for Swiss chard (which Nik promptly planted). We’re looking forward to lots of Swiss chard this year!
Nik also worked hard preparing our raised beds for spring planting and planted arugula, several kinds of lettuce, radishes, and beets. We sadly missed the pea window so we’ll have to wait until fall for those.
He also picked our first harvest of the season!
Just kidding! He did find those in the garden but they are actually carrots which we missed picking last fall and they over-wintered in the ground. The greens were still green!
Nice! That’s a beautiful little bed there, and the swiss chard should be gorgeous over the summer! Very cool to know that the carrots winter over like that! I’ve heard of it but never tried it. If you had left those in, they would have gone to seed this year and you would have had your own carrot seed! (Or maybe that only works with heritage or open-pollinated types – yes?) Anyway, the progress you have made with your 30 minute a day plan is awesomely working! Way to go!
Thanks Zona! I actually did more like an hour on Thursday and and an hour and a half on Friday. It’s been nice having Nik home to help with Ellie! So next week we’re back to reality but I’m still hoping to do 30 minutes a day. Carrot seed would have been cool – it is an heirloom type (from Baker Creek Seed) so it would have worked!
