Help a good friend and ESOL teacher

I have a soft spot in my heart for students who are learning English (obviously).  My friend Katie is an excellent ESOL teacher.  She teaches in Baltimore City and is currently raising money through DonorsChoose to purchase vocabulary activity sets for her students.   Learning vocabulary is one of the hardest things about learning a language.  Can you imagine being thrown into a situation where you needed to learn thousands of words at once?

Please consider giving to Katie’s project, “Fun with Words to Build Vocabulary.”  Even a donation of $5 or $10 would really help Katie (“Ms. B”) and her classmates.

Thank you!

  1. Literacyhead.com is a magazine that connects literacy and the arts. Each issue has a feature called “Visual Vocabulary” that includes art which provides context, and illustrates meaning.

As a collaborative teacher of English Language Learners, I understand how challenging vocabulary can be, so I’ll definitely contribute to the cause. Please share Literacyhead with Katie. You’re a great friend.

Thanks Cameron. I’m an ESOL teacher myself although I’m currently staying at home, taking care of my baby girl. I’ll definitely pass along your info to my friend. Best of luck in your job teaching ELLs. Your pictures are great.

Hey Laura! I just found your website through SMS and then started poking around out of curiosity. I saw your category “school” and decided to read some of your postings since I’m a teacher too! And then I saw this one. And I geeked out a little since I’m a high school ESOL teacher too. Maybe I’m a little too excited. But it’s fun to find people with which I have things in common.

PS: I don’t mean to be creepy/stalkery, but I couldn’t pass up the chance to point out that we both have a friend named Kristen with two little girls. Okay, there are probably a million Kristen’s with two little girls, but you know, it got me wondering nonetheless since we’re both teachers from the Baltimore area…
