Thinking

Just read this post today about the goal of parenting as Christians, which, in the thoughts of this person is NOT that we end up with kids who love God and serve him.  Read here to see the whole post (it’s short).  Thoughts anyone?

I very much liked the post, and I agree with the author. I think the best thing I can do as a parent is live my life believing and acting like I am loved by Jesus; and then, as I go about living my life, to daily choose to tell (and show) my children about the love Jesus has for me and for them. And, like the post stated, while my greatest desire is that my children will know, love, and serve Jesus, in the end it is a personal choice my children must make on their own.

Thanks everybody – that’s what I thought too but not having any [born] kids myself yet, I wanted to hear thoughts from others! 🙂

I really liked this post. I would say that it has been my prayer and hope for my boys since before they were born that eventually they would be followers and lovers of Christ and that God would be glorified in their lives. But I totally agree that cannot be my goal because I cannot make that happen. I liked the phrasing of “living out the gospel” before them as a goal. For me too its been a goal (and prayer) that Jeffrey and I would demonstrate the love of Christ to them and raise them in a godly manner. Which is so not easy. It requires a lot of grace going both ways.
    Just my thoughts.
