I stayed home from school today. I started getting a sore throat on Wednesday and by yesterday it was really bad. So I decided to stay home. It’s a good thing I did too because I didn’t manage to get out of bed until 9:00 and my voice is so hoarse I could do a really good Louis Armstrong impression (and I’m not kidding!). I think that I probably would have lost my voice if I had to talk all day. So hopefully, by just resting all day/all weekend, I’ll be fine by Monday.
In other news, we’re getting to see Michael Pollan in person tomorrow!! We feel a bit like groupies, we’re so looking forward to this! He’s coming to the Central Library downtown for a free lecture. Supposedly, he has some new suggestions for how to eat responsibly because the industrial food machine has co-opted his In Defense of Food rules (like a 5-ingredient ice cream that really isn’t good for you). Just one more reason to despise industrial food. So if we learn anything new, I’ll share it with you!
And, this morning I made hot cereal from oatmeal, rye flakes, and barley flakes, which I mixed together myself. It was really good! I got them at a health food store that I just found, which is within easy walking distance from my house. The store is really tiny but they have lots of organic bulk foods and I’m excited about that!
And finally, go watch The Meatrix. It’s hilarious and just reinforces our decision to never eat industrially raised meat again. (I even think it’s hilarious and I’ve never seen the Matrix!)
i have a really bad sore throat too!! yay, we can be sick together 🙂 love you!
