Zucchini update

We pulled out the other half of the plant this morning.  The leaves were wilting and the plant was just generally dying.  When I pulled it out, I saw that there was some really fat worm-looking bugs in the middle of the stem.  Could this be the cause of the sudden death?  Or perhaps another symptom?  Any thoughts?

I should have read this blog before I responded to the last one!  Without looking anything up (so take it or leave it) I have heard of squash borers.  And I would definitly figure out the problem before planting more.  Hopefully, your other two squash will be OK.

Lousy, lousy, lousy.  You could add that to your list of sad adjectives.  You have my deepest and utmost sympathy.  Truly.  First, I would go get some more zucchini plants!  Or seeds, though it might be a little late for that.  Then I would look over the Gardens Alive website.  I just did and found at least two products especially for just such a problem.  There is also the idea of using a floating crop cover fabric to keep moths from laying eggs on your crops, but I’m not sure if that’s where your particular grubs came from.  Gardens Alive ships pretty quickly and is earth-friendly.  Don’t give up!  The occasional battle is half the satisfaction of accomplishment in the garden.  Funny, today I was going to blog some of my own plant/insect issues!
