Well (which is, as Granny would say, a very deep subject for such a shallow mind! [She did say that, right?]), I’ve been working on the Roman shade project since lunchtime and I only have two of the three shades sewn. That doesn’t even approach doing everything that it will take to turn them into shades. It took me like 2 1/2 hours just to cut out the three curtains and 3 lining pieces. But, I think (I hope!) I’ll get faster at all of this, the more that I do it. At this rate, it’s going to be a long time before we have curtains for all the rooms in our house. But, I’m not going to do Roman shades for all the rooms in our house so hopefully some of the projects will be faster!
On a positive note, whatever I was doing wrong with my sewing machine, I have fixed now. So the thread isn’t bunching up underneath and all seems to be well with that.
It’s fun to be sewing again! (But my back is aching!)
I got fifty pounds of corn yesterday, when I was up visiting Lisa in western NY. So I’m hoping to finish a corn sack tonight too.
If I get anything finished, I’ll post a picture. Otherwise, tomorrow will be Finish It! Friday. Again!
you must have a pretty simple pattern-i couldn’t figure out roman shades for the life of me. So I would say you’re doing great!
Yay for Roman shades! I grew up with our whole house having Roman shades-my mom would get some really thick lining stuff to go behind them to keep the cold (or heat) out. So, it’s bringing back a wee bit of familiarity! I do remember they were quite a bit of work…I can picture my mom sewing them away in our basement. They’ll be great when they’re done!
wow … all that sounds quite intimidating to me. I really want to pick up sewing again, and especially make the girls cute skits and such. What are Roman shades? Can you post a pic when you finish?
Love your blog Laura – you made me laugh out loud at Grandma Lorene’s wittism “a very deep subject for such a shallow mind!” She would make the comment so sweetly but with a mischevious look on her face wondering if the person on the recieving end would notice that they were being soundly ridiculed. Thanks for the memory this morning…
Jere and I were vacationing in Phoenix for a week and Jim “just happened” to call. We were delighted to discover that he was there doing a wedding so we had an afternoon together. He told us that he and Linda really enjoyed their time with you and Nik in DC.
Blessings to you both, Aunt Mary Lou
