A Comfortable Perch

Rigby = the dog in the book!

This morning, Ellie very much enjoyed looking at our friend’s blog post about her dog Rigby.  Then she found the puppy in our Mary Cassatt book, who looks a lot like Rigby!

(Is this some sort of developmental milestone – being able to compare two things that are really both abstract?  We did already have the book on our lap but she very deliberately opened it to the page with the puppy!)

Thanks for the fun pictures, Betsy!  (And we love that T-shirt!)

Yes, her runny nose REFUSES to go away.  How aggravating!

Movie Time: Independent Play (from December 2011)

Remember my joy at independent play returning last week?  Here’s an example of independent play, when Ellie was 14 months old.  She’s not so fascinated by the clean diapers now but she does still play with them if I leave them out for her.

If you don’t want to watch all 2 minutes of the video, you’ll get the idea in the first few seconds of the video and then you could skip to about 1:30 to see some more knee walking and interaction with me.

She was still so fat three months ago!

Proof: She Does Have Hair!

It’s just much easier to see it when it’s wet!

Movie Time: Helping Mama (from December 2011)

Ellie first started helping me in December, when she was just 14 months old.  It still amazes me that babies can do so much when they are so young!  She loved to play with the diaper cream while I was changing her diaper so I started having her “help” me put it away so that she wouldn’t get upset when I took it away from her.  It was through this that we learned that Ellie will happily put anything away, even dangerous (and of course, oh so fun) things as long as she is helping.

It also amazes me to see how wobbly she was at 14 months compared to how amazingly self-assured and in control of her body she is now.

Happy First Birthday!

Happy First Birthday Violet!  We love you very much!

Somehow, we managed to take no pictures of Violet in September and no pictures of her by herself when we were in Alaska last summer.  Alas, I think that is the fate of a fifth child.  We’ll do our best to remedy that problem in April!

Fancy, Fancy, (Take Two)

Remember the very fancy dress I showed you last time?  Here’s the second one!

Totally zoned out about something

Thank you Elizabeth and Miss Paulette for the beautiful dresses!

Movie Time: Knee Walking (from December 2011)

Ellie walked on her knees for a long time (2-3 months?) before she was willing to walk on her feet.  Here’s a little example of that when she was 14 months old, along with her determination to also learn how to crawl up on the bed!

Who Are You and Where Did My Baby Go? (Oh yeah, and spring is here)

On Thursday, we took a long walk, enjoying the almost 70-degree weather.  Ellie found a stick and held on to it for almost 45 minutes!  I’m not sure what it is about these pictures – maybe it’s the new size of clothes or her independence but wow, does she look grown up!

Going down stairs like a big girl takes concentration!

She even got her first big scratch on this walk – she was holding onto her stick and then tripped and fell forward onto the pavement.  Four of her fingers have scratches on them.  She cried pretty hard but also stopped pretty quickly and it wasn’t until we’d walked a few more steps that I discovered the big scratches.  She’s a tough girl!

And spring is here too.  It feels like no big deal because we never had winter.  This is the first time ever that I’m not even that excited about daffodils.  I mean, I am, but just not overflowing with excitement.  That must mean I’m a jaded East Coaster now and not a true Alaskan.  Although I did take a lot of pictures of spring flowers so that must mean that somewhere, unconsciously, I’m glad for spring to be here!
