Here are Ellie and Yiyia with a little dinner table conversation.

we’re not pregnant – come on, people.
We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this newsflash from our vacation: Ellie is crawling!! She’s been trying to move for a couple weeks now and has in fact, been pushing herself backwards for quite awhile. But last night, she got all four limbs working at the same time and all of a sudden, she’s mobile.
Our life will never be the same.
And in other news, we’re having a great vacation! In about 2 minutes (as soon as my bread finishes toasting), we’re off for a 3-day, 2-night camping trip to the Kenai Peninsula with my dad and my niece and nephew. We’re camping at Kenai Lake for two nights, with a day trip to Seward tomorrow. Dad is bringing his raft (with a little motor) so we’re looking forward to some good times on the lake. The weather is fabulous so we’re hoping we won’t be rained out (like last weekend’s camping trip).
I love Alaskan summers! (Although I don’t exactly love the 7 black fly bites on my left hand from last weekend.)
And now back to your regularly scheduled “Movie Week: Vacation Edition” programming.
More fun noises! She obviously knows who she needs to keep happy.

Ellie makes all kinds of fun noises these days. Here’s one example.

Here is Ellie on Day 4 of her learning-to-eat adventure (taken 5/2/11):
And here she is on Day 5. Notice that she’s getting messier, although she really still wasn’t eating any of it at this point (taken on 5/3/11):
A bit of explanation: With Baby-Led Weaning, you are supposed to eat what the baby is eating so that the baby will learn that it’s OK to eat it. Hence, that’s why you hear me being so silly about chewing off-camera.

First, her first time touching solid food
(Nik was at a tennis match so I was documenting for him):
Next, she started putting the food closer to her mouth but not in it yet:
And, the first taste:
It’s been so exciting to see our baby learn how to eat!
Ellie finds tug-o-war really fun. This particular day, we were playing tug-o-war with the keyboard tray.

Nik and I are fairly biased against plastic toys and towards cloth and wood. For awhile, Ellie was quite interested in playing with the cloth napkins that we use at the dinner table. So we decided to do a test: which toy would she prefer? It didn’t turn out quite the way we wanted it to so we tried again.
Which do you think she preferred? The rings or the napkin?
